It's another Sunday and the shops are quiet. I'm probably called for #65 or #213 but I'm early so I can take my own little shop tour. I've walked from the Caller's office to Station Zero where the Milwaukee Road's Police command post is.....they also dispatched the Milwaukee Road's Chicago Cops from here too.....and secured permission to walk the shops. There was always an Officer walking and checking in the shops so I didn't want to surprise him as most of these guys carried 357 Magnums....remember the Clint Eastwood movies were out about this time"Dirty Harry"!!Anyway most of these Officers were really nice guys and never shot anything but pigeons.....I can only remember one of them off hand his name was Rich Mishefski...son of the Hostler Foreman Ted Mishefski and grand son to the Chief Mechanical Officer. If I remember correctly Rich was promoted to company cop at Lacrosse then he left the Milwaukee Road to become Fire Chief in Eau Clare,WI..Anyway....I'm at the old coach yard next to the wheel shop where one of the 1948 series obs is sitting next to some stored covered wagons.......I remember the silence as I stood there and clicked the shutter on what once flew across our RR at 90-100mph carrying the markers on many a morning and afternoon Hiawatha's.
