NS train 221 flying over Frey Creek.
The high priority train 221 was living up to that status, as it quickly headed over Frey Creek near Spartanburg, SC. Two of the still fairly new B32-8 units and a GP50 made up the consist on that day.

CSX coal train headed through Roebuck, SC.
An SD40-2 in the blue & gray CSX paint leads a loaded coal train south through the small town of Roebuck in this early CSX action. There was plenty of smoke coming from a couple of the engines in the consist.

NS 119 headed by 2 C39-8's with 2 cabooses on the rear.
Train 119 was headed by a pair of C39-8 units on this day. The train was preparing to stop to do some switching at Hayne Yard. There was also a pair of Southern cabooses on the rear of the train.

NS train 221 with an EMD GP49 headed through Spartanburg.
A former Southern GP49 was leading train 221 this day. The unit was originally one of six GP39X units built for Southern Railway in 1980. Two years later they were rebuilt (internally) to GP49 specs.

Spartanburg yard crew delivering to the CSX interchange.
The GP38-2 that the Spartanburg switcher was using this day was still in it's Southern paint. The crew was delivering a cut of cars from Hayne Yard to the interchange with CSX.

NS 221 headed by three GP50's.
Three GP50's lead train 221 up the grade from Beaumont Jct. The units were still being used regularly on high priority train by NS when this was shot, just as their original owner, Southern, had done.

Southern B30-7A1 leading train 219 through Spartanburg.
Train 219, with a nice mix of power, was headed by a B30-7A1 still in it's classic Southern paint. It was a nice treat to see that Southern unit leading the way on this hot train.
