Remarks: Traffic signal preemption is a type of system that allows the normal operation of traffic lights to be preempted. The approach of a train can preempt the traffic signals to help clear a busy intersection before the arrival of a train. Although there is clearly no danger of having that problem in this video, watch as the traffic lights respond to the appraoch of CLNA train 120 at the corner of Main and Commercial in Stantonsburg, NC.
Nicely done. What time of day/night is this? This is almost an exact duplication of the CSX crossing through our sleepy little village here in Illinois, except that we don't have preemptive traffic lights. We don't have ANY traffic lights. With the exception of a few semis, the road is barren of traffic late at night, as this is, and doesn't increase that much through the day.
We have a very similar set up here in Lansing, Michigan. One of the main drags into downtown runs along the mainline GTW/CN line, and there are 3 sets of lights similar to this set up in the span of a couple miles. Traffic can back up for miles, but it does keep traffic off the tracks when trains approach very successfully.
