Remarks: The first of a series of three takes on Valentines Day on the old Rio Grande route over Soldier Summit sees a south- (or east-) bound freight coming up to the 7477 foot high Summit itself. The 714 leads a colourful four-unit lashup through the snowscape and will be seen again at Castle Rock in the next of these three sequences.
