Remarks: Deep in the heart of the Allegheny Mountains of the Cumberland Valley, the familiar sound of a steam whistle can still be heard roaring through the mountains. The sounds come from none other than 'Mountain Thunder' herself, #734. This 1916-built monster certianly lives up to her name, as she fights the hill between Cumberland and Frostburg, MD. Providing help was GP30 #501, an ex-PRR locomotive; she was especially useful on the return trip, as the dynamics were in full use. So sit back, and enjoy the sight and sounds of 'Steam in the Alleghenies'.

"Mountain Thunder" is back for another year!

This is a great sequence of scene choices with a real nice editing job. Makes me want to grab a camcorder & head back into theCumberland hillside again. Of course I'm going to have to bring a bushhog next time as Helmstetter's is looking a bit overgrown on the inside of the curve.
