To be honest, I have seen closer calls with 425's crazed foamers than this car. As for gates, they are not needed; just a little more common sense on the drivers part. Interesting find, Joe, thanks for sharing!

Like it was a really long train going real slow and you don't have time to wait?!? Nature has it's ways of thinning the herd but unfortunately that train crew would have to live with that idiot's stupidity.

Posted by bullwinkle on November 1, 2008

That was to close for comfort!

Posted by Mike on November 1, 2008

At the least, it needs lights for the morons who don't look before they cross the tracks.

Posted by K100DS on November 1, 2008

Wow. Too bad you didn't get the license plate number off that Jeep...

Posted by kyleyunker on November 1, 2008

The moron didn't even have his headlights on and it was raining.

Posted by Derek Buel on November 1, 2008

Okay, you see a headlight, you hear a whistle, and you think the train's going to stop for you! Please!

People like this should be put in a cave far away. If the do get hit somehow the railroad company gets blamed. Plus, the crew has to live with "killing" a guy.

Posted by Brian Hiscock on November 1, 2008

I'm sorry, but I just have to laugh. What an IDIOT!

Posted by Dave on November 1, 2008

It's called Darwinism... this is a GOOD candidate for the Darwin awards...

Posted by Jon on November 2, 2008

That was close, good thing 425 never hit the car.

Posted by Andre Wilson on November 2, 2008

That was very close! Oh boy!

Posted by ollie on November 4, 2008

If he got hit I'd laugh then assess 425's damage

Its things like this that shut down steam programs. If 425 hit the car, the program would risk being shut down by the insurance company on the grounds that "steam engines are not safe", which is a load, and the insurance companies know it.

I think that this idiot was in a hurry to vote for a ballot on dummies behind the wheel day

Posted by Ian McAlister on November 8, 2008

You can't get much closer than 1.5 seconds. I think you have a legitimate "close call" here, especially compared to those who catch someone running a lights only crossing with more than 15 seconds to spare and call THEM close.

Posted by Derek Buel on November 9, 2008

I agree with whoever posted the comment on steam programs vs insurance companies. A lot of the bad things that happen through the rail community are because of a person's own stupidity.

A family member was a locomotive engineer. The only thing that ever bothered that man on into his retirement years was that one time a complete idiot, like the one shown in this video, pulled onto a grade crossing. There was no time to stop and several folks in the vehicle were killed. Like I said, it bothered him for some time, but there was nothing he could have done to prevent the accident.

Posted by Rod Williams on November 10, 2008

Everybody look again. This was a deliberate act. Watch the fool brake and go again.

Posted by ErnieM on February 27, 2009

I don't think this was deliberate, I think the driver was worried about the bumpy track under his precious car so he slowed for that until he became aware of his surroundings.

Posted by Drifton on March 28, 2009

Wow... You can hear the panic of the engineer in the whistle. Obviously a deliberate "beat the train" loser. Sad thing is the driver (if they survived) would have sued the railroad for their own stupidity.

Posted by GSpro on April 14, 2009

Wow... seriously.. what an idiot! Even if I were the driver of the first car you see crossing, I think I would have even waited then. Nice find Joe. Poor Shane or Chad must have been scared shitless!

Posted by Ian McAlister on June 25, 2009

You can actually see that he noticed the train by his braking, but he was going too fast for the rainy conditions and his brakes wouldn't grab well. He was luckily able to continue through before getting obliterated.

Man if this guy came a split second later his car would be gone. STUPID GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
