Remarks: Union Pacific steamers 844 and 3985 are seen from a helicopter as they cross the Great Salt Lake in Utah with a westbound passenger going along the Overland Route to Sacramento in the Spring of 1999. This unique perspective gives you the chance to see the famous causeway from above, with water everywhere else - a spectacular extract from "The Great Salt Lake Air and Rail Show" featured at TheRailwayStation.tv

Is the causeway accessible to the public at any place?

Not so far as I am aware: the track alongside the right-of-way is the Railroad's maintenance of way road, which they don't seem to like us mere mortals using! The only possible way to get near the trackside would be to approach from the north, on the east side of the spit of land which takes you to Promontary Point via NE Promontory Road and SE Promontory Road, which is around 25 miles of dirt road. If you Google 'Promontary' you'll see the track.
