Remarks: Here is the story, Amtrak comes in to Joliet Station 3.5 hours late. The conductor throws this old ladies bags on the CN tracks and gives the engineer the go ahead to proceed and release the station for freight. The Massive BNSF Piggy train comes 3 min. later and blows by just inches from her. She said that after this trip she will never ride Amtrak again!

One bad employee, and she throws in the towel, people :( I don't see where she was in any danger either. Oh, it's Amtrak not Amtrack :)

Seems to me like its either an overreaction or just a simple misunderstanding. All I can say is if she decided to get on a plane this time of year, she would likely end up on the tarmac without running water, sewage disposal, air circulation, or food and drink for 6-10 hours. Pick your poison...

Having an 83 year old mother myself I know how scared this old woman with her walker must have been with that intermodal bearing down on her like that. While I have no doubt the Amtrak employee was one bad apple in a bunch, I must (and do) understand this woman's frustrations...not that the train was 3.5 hours late but at the conductor treating her so shabbily.

I feel for her and anyone who has had a bad amtrak experience, but it seems to me that even with a walker she could have got further away from the track in 3 minutes.

I've never known Amtrak to disembark there. It's always well north of the station.

From my calculations, this lady was at least three feet from the train when it came through. Still a little too close for comfort, especially with an elderly person. The engineer should have given them a warning blast from his horn telling them to get away from the tracks. The lady in purple looked like a nurse and tried to help the lady away. In my opinion, the Amtrak conductor should have waited until the person was far enough away from the tracks before proceding on. However, being at least three hours behind schedule was a crutial factor in his decision. In reality, this person was never in any danger.
